Last night, ManageMemberships experienced a brief service interruption that lasted a total of four minutes. While it would be easy to gloss over something this short, we believe moments like these are worth explaining openly.
Transparency matters. Not as sales language or marketing polish, but as a reflection of how a system and the people behind it respond when something unexpected happens. Our goal has always been to provide the best possible experience for our customers, not just when everything is running smoothly, but especially when it is not.
At 3:52 AM, our monitoring system triggered an alert indicating abnormal performance. At 3:54 AM, we logged in and began mitigation. By 3:56 AM, service was fully restored.

What Happened
The slowdown was caused by a sudden spike in traffic combined with latency from a third party API dependency. That combination caused application workers to back up temporarily, slowing parts of the platform.
The immediate fix was straightforward. We increased available workers and traffic normalized almost instantly.
More importantly, after hours improvements were deployed to make the system more fault tolerant under similar conditions in the future. These changes ensure that slow or degraded external services are isolated more effectively, rather than impacting customer workflows.
What Was Not Affected
During the incident, all door access control systems continued to operate normally.
This is intentional. Door access relies on distributed on premises caching, meaning doors do not depend on a live cloud request to function. Even during brief cloud interruptions, members and staff retain access according to their permissions.
Downtime Is Inevitable. Response Is Not.
Even the largest technology companies experience outages. Amazon Web Services has experienced disruptions tied to services like Amazon DynamoDB. Cloudflare routinely publishes incident reports that affect large portions of the internet.
The difference is not whether outages ever happen. The difference is how quickly they are detected, how clearly they are communicated, and what changes are made afterward.
Beyond Sales Claims
Uptime numbers look good on a homepage, but trust is built through behavior. In this case, the system detected the issue within minutes, a human was actively working on it almost immediately, service was restored in four minutes, and improvements were shipped the same night.
That is the standard we hold ourselves to. We are committed to continually improving reliability, resilience, and overall experience for every customer who depends on ManageMemberships to run their business.
